Day 1. BogotĂĄ - Leticia - Takana River. Introduction to the Jungle and ancestral culture

Note: this day's activities may vary depending on the time of arrival of the passengers in Leticia or if they are already in the city.

Reception at the airport or meeting in Leticia. Transfer by private car to Km 11 of the Leticia – Tarapacá highway, north of Leticia. Meeting with the local guide, lunch and luggage check. Walk to enter the Takana malocas (approx. 3 hours). Tour through secondary jungles and chagras or traditional orchards, visit indigenous malocas of the Mavuna, Yukuna, Huitoto and Bora ethnic groups. Recognition of ecosystems, useful plants, presentation of rituals, uses and customs.

Reception and stay at the Bora maloca at the end of the day (hammocks with mosquito nets, improvised latrine-type outdoor bathrooms)

19:00 Dinner and optional night activity: sharing the rituals of coca and tobacco use, talks in the mambeadero, night walk...

Day 2. Exploration into the jungle.

Waking up at dawn and optional activities such as bird watching, fishing, visiting the farm, food preparation.

Breakfast: 07:00

Walk (4 to 6 hours) to the high primary jungles to the northeast (El Varillal or jaguar territory) of the Takana River north of Leticia. Lunch in the jungle, camping setup (hammocks with mosquito net and roof in the middle of the trees. Exploration and interpretation of the ecosystem by the guide, observation of fauna and flora, recognition of the sounds of the jungle and appreciation of different natural phenomena such as nocturnal bioluminescence. Survival tips, dinner over the fire, hiking and appreciation of nightlife, jungle stories, rest in the hammocks

Day 3. With the Jungle and its People.

05:00 Jungle sunrise, bath in the ravine and breakfast over the fire. .

07:00 Camp pickup and exploration of the area, continuation of the walk to the Takana River basin. Exploration of ecosystems along the way and identification of fauna and flora. Lunch in the countryside and arrival at Johny's maloca in the middle of the jungle. Dinner and rest in the hammocks. Sharing of coca and tobacco rituals (mambe, ambil, snuff), preparation of traditional foods.

Day 4. Takana Colombia River Adventure

05:00 Wake up, swim in the ravine and have breakfast.

06:00 Luggage collection and walk to the Grandfather Alfonso Adventure maloca, on the banks of the Takana River. Tree climbing activity on canopy platforms and aerial steps. Descent from the trees and start kayaking on the Takana River downstream to the mainland hills of the "Agua Negra" ravine. Lunch on the way, walk and exploration around jungle camp No. 2. Dinner at the fire, walk and appreciation of nightlife. Rest in the hammocks.

Day 5. Takana River Adventure Brazil

06:00 Wake up at dawn, breakfast at the fire, pick up camp, explore the area and return to the kayaks with lunch in the Takana ravine.

Kayak trip No. 2 to the Takana Reserve of the S. Joao farming community in the secondary forests of Brazil. Accommodation in the house (hammocks and/or mats on the floor). Recognition of fruits and agricultural products of the region. Typical dinner and rest.

Day 6. Amazon River and JavarĂ­

06:00 Wake up at dawn, swim in the ravine and "chuchuwasa" ritual, breakfast at home and luggage collection. River transfer (motorized canoe) and/or land transfer to the port of Tabatinga (Brazil) on the Amazon River. Navigation along the Amazon River, recognition of the imaginary point of the three borders (Colombia-Peru-Brazil). Navigation and exploration of the flooded jungles of Peru and the JavarĂ­ River (Brazil-Peru Natural Border). Visit to the ZacambĂș lakes, dolphin watching along the way, white sand beaches (low water season), lakes, piranha fishing, sailing and searching for alligators at night.

Day 7. Reunion with the urban jungle

NOTE: This day's activities depend on the passengers' flight itinerary, or if they wish to stay in Leticia this last night for an additional price.

Breakfast in the Reserve. Activities in the morning by the reserve guides. Transfer to the port of La Reserva and meeting at 09:00 with the private boat for the return to Leticia. Tour by private car through Leticia and Tabatinga (Brazil), lunch and transfer to the airport.

Recommendations and warnings:

  • Consult with us to extend your excursion one or more nights in the countryside or closing your excursion on the last night in a hotel in Leticia.

  • Do not bring jewelry, non-essential valuables, important documents or large sums of cash.

  • Carry some simple money and cash with you, for possible personal purchases during the tour.

  • Bring your luggage in a comfortable backpack with a minimum capacity of 70 liters. Take your excursion with strictly the minimum luggage necessary during the tour.

    • Light and quick-drying clothing: 1 pair of long pants for walks and for resting in the different scenarios, a shorts to alternate during the hottest moments, a pair of short-sleeved T-shirts and a long-sleeved shirt to protect yourself of mosquitoes at the most critical moments. Enough underwear.

    • Footwear: It is recommended to bring Pantanal rubber boots for walks and a single pair of extra shoes such as tennis shoes or outdoor type sandals that are also easy to dry. Other types of footwear of your choice, which you decide to use at your own risk, will most likely be exposed to water and mud during walks.

    • Accessories: thin gloves, neck-buff or scarves, cap.

    • Personal hygiene: toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant of your choice. We do not recommend bringing soaps, shampoo, perfumes, creams and others to reduce the load during the tour and minimize environmental impacts.

  • Biosecurity.

    • SELVAVENTURA and its team of providers provide a basic first aid kit during the tour and at the different stations. Bring your own prescription or personal use medications in the proper containers. 

    • COVID19: responsibly apply personal care before during and after your excursion, in accordance with international regulations.

    • Yellow fever: the international recommendation, standard for some tropical countries, obliges to carry the vaccination card against yellow fever which is valid for 10 years and does not apply to people over 60 years of age. If you have the card, carry it and if you have not been vaccinated, check if the country or region of destination is requiring the card or not when traveling. In any case, the region of the Amazon where this excursion is carried out does not represent a risk of contracting the disease.

    • Malaria or Paludism. The vaccine for this ailment is not yet available on the formal market. The probability of contracting this disease during your excursion is very low. We do not recommend taking prophylactic (“preventive”) medications against this disease since their full efficiency has not been proven and they significantly affect your body. People who use these drugs can camouflage the disease in their body with long-term effects. If necessary, this disease is easily detected with blood tests and has its respective curative medical treatment.

    • In case of abnormal symptoms such as fever, headache, strong flu, joint pain, diarrhea, etc... after your trip; We recommend visiting specialized medical centers and advising that relevant tests be done for possible tropical diseases.
